My Haircare Routine as a New Blonde

Since dying my hair over lockdown like I am sure many of us have out of boredom, I have noticed that my hair needs a bit of extra TLC, so if you too are a new blonde or realise that your hair needs a bit of pampering then you’re in the right place.

Shampoo and conditioner

These two products are key to long healthy hair as you will probably end up using them the most. What I have learnt when shopping for shampoo and conditioner is that it is important to avoid bottles that aren’t silicone free, as using a shampoo that contains silicones actually hide the true state of your hair by coating the hair shaft. This leads to a build up in your hair that stops moisturise from getting in. Through doing a bit of research I chose the Shea Moisture Hydrate & Repair line and it did not fail to live up to its glowing reviews. Not only do the products smell amazing but I have also noticed that they have added moisture back into my hair as well as making it look healthier and more alive. Another thing to bear in mind when you are washing your hair is to only use shampoo on the top of your head, massaging it into the scalp. It has also been recommended to me to only apply conditioner on the lengths, which I also think has helped to stop my hair from drying out. Recently I have tried to hold off washing my hair until the third day, since washing it too often can cause it to loose moisture and remove healthy oils that naturally reside in the scalp.

Hair mask

Hair masks are a great way to repair damaged hair and nourish it, which is exactly what this hair mask has done. Not only is the sweet smell of banana and shea absolutely divine but through trying out hair masks over the years I have actually found that this one does its job. I tend to use it once a week and leave in my hair after shampooing for about 20 minutes, as this is when most effective, so I would highly recommend trying this mask and at such a cheap price it’s practically a steal.

Purple Shampoo

If you have gone blonde before you will know that purple shampoo is essential for obtaining those icy locks. Purple shampoo works to remove brassiness or in other words it stops blonde hair from looking yellow. The annoying thing about a lot of purple shampoos is that you have to leave them in for a long time, which can be a nuisance when you’ve got a busy schedule. However, through using Fanola’s shampoo I have discovered that I only need to leave it in for a couple of minutes for it to produce the same results. The only thing I would say that because this purple shampoo is so strong, I would use it every fourth wash and follow up with a nourishing hair mask like the one mentioned above as otherwise can feel slightly drying.

Leave in treatment

I have been using this leave in treatment from L’Oréal for about two years now and have felt no need to switch it out. To apply simply squeeze a small amount into my hands when your hair is wet and massage into your head. This adds another layer of moisture into your hair and leaves it shining as well as smelling good.
